Product description
SAFDECK® / SAFPLANK® is a pultruded fiberglass industrial decking and planking panel system. SAFPLANK® is a system of 12" and 24" wide fiberglass panels that interlock to form a continuous solid surface, intended to replace wood, aluminum, or steel planks in environments where corrosion or rotting creates costly maintenance problems or unsafe conditions. SAFDECK® is a system of 24" wide fiberglass panels that overlap to form a continuous solid surface. Both products are suited for walkways, flooring, decking, covers, and screening applications in high-moisture and corrosive environments including marine, industrial, and wastewater treatment facilities.
Interpretation
The cradle-to-gate GWP of SAFDECK® / SAFPLANK® is 2.26E+00 kg CO₂ eq per kg of declared product. Raw material extraction (A1) is the dominant contributor at 76% of total GWP, driven by polyester resin and glass fiber reinforcement. Transport of raw materials (A2) contributes 4%. The manufacturing stage (A3) accounts for 20% of GWP, from electricity consumption at the VA facility using the US-SERC grid. Acidification potential (AP) is 6.57E-03 mol H⁺ eq. Abiotic depletion potential for fossil resources (ADP-fossil) is 1.82E+01 MJ, NCV. Net water deprivation potential (WDP) is negative (−7.90E+00 m³ world eq.), indicating a net water benefit at the system boundary. Photochemical ozone creation potential (POCP) is 6.51E-03 kg NMVOC eq. Freshwater eutrophication potential (EP-fw) is 4.26E-04 kg P eq. No secondary materials or renewable secondary fuels are used in the production of this product.
LCIA results are relative expressions and do not predict impacts on category endpoints, the exceeding of thresholds, safety margins or risks. EPDs are comparable only when they follow the same PCR, functional unit and system boundary. The full EPD (PDF) contains the methodology, scenario assumptions and verification statement.
