Product description
This EPD represents carbon steel plate produced from steel slab melted and manufactured via Consteel Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology at JSW USA facilities in Baytown, Texas and Mingo Junction, Ohio.
JSW USA produces specialty made to order carbon steel plate for bridges, utility structure, heavy fabrication, IIJA-funded projects, pressure vessels, storage, process, yellow goods, mining, OEM heavy, marine and defense, shipbuilding (Berry Amendment compliant) offshore monopiles, offshore transition pieces, and other applications where specification compliance, material traceability, and documentation are essential project requirements.
Products are manufactured to customer specification and produced in accordance with applicable ASTM, ASME, API, DIN, JIS, PED, and related industry standards. Quality assurance and preventative maintenance programs support consistent production performance and documentation integrity.
Environmental Product Declarations and product-level environmental data are available to support Buy America compliance documentation, Scope 2 reporting, Buy Clean requirements, LEED documentation, and ESG audit processes.
Interpretation
The contribution analysis indicates that the majority of the impacts occur because of raw materials (A1) and manufacturing (A3). An average of 79% (ranging from 63% - 97%) for A1 and an average of 14% (ranging from 3% - 35%) for A3 across all impact categories. Note that raw material transport in A2 accounts for an average of 7% (ranging from 0% - 18%) across all impact categories.
Note: A collection of manufacturer-average and/or facility-specific EPDs is insufficient for setting benchmarks and thresholds unless production volumes are taken into account. Benchmarking and threshold setting efforts shall also consider that some manufacturer-average data and facility-specific data may be represented in Industry-average EPDs and may result in double counting of the same data.
LCIA results are relative expressions and do not predict impacts on category endpoints, the exceeding of thresholds, safety margins or risks. EPDs are comparable only when they follow the same PCR, functional unit and system boundary. The full EPD (PDF) contains the methodology, scenario assumptions and verification statement.
