Product description
The LightFrame is an accessible, translucent, acoustical fabric ceiling system that optimizes the transmission of artificial or natural light using a precise monofilament fabric. Additional features include an assembled and pre-stressed lightweight aluminum profile, wrinkle-free, pre-stressed, smooth membrane fabric facing, low VOCs, and dirt-resistant. Please note that the values in the material composition section are presented as ranges to protect confidential business information.
The default RSL of 30 years was used based on PCR guidance.
Interpretation
Based on the results from the life cycle assessment, the life cycle impacts are strongly driven by the raw material and manufacturing processes. These two stages account for 94-99% of the impact across all indicators. Identifying alternate uses or recycling options for the product at the end of its useful life will reduce the end-of-life and potential raw materials burdens of recycled products. If possible, incorporating more recycled content into the product will help reduce the environmental impacts of the raw materials stage in the life cycle of the product. Fabric, aluminum, and steel were the highest contributors towards the GWP impact, accounting for roughly 60% of the overall impact.
LCIA results are relative expressions and do not predict impacts on category endpoints, the exceeding of thresholds, safety margins or risks. EPDs are comparable only when they follow the same PCR, functional unit and system boundary. The full EPD (PDF) contains the methodology, scenario assumptions and verification statement.
