Product description
Series 288 and 289 are low-ambering, advanced-generation, breathable, waterborne epoxy coatings engineered for enhanced UV stability and long-term resistance to yellowing. Both products are suitable for wall and flooring applications and can be applied to green concrete. They provide excellent resistance to chemical and solvent exposures and may be used as primers, topcoats, or standalone sealers. Series 288 is designed to support higher-build applications, including broadcast and mortar flooring systems, making it well suited for more demanding flooring environments. Series 289 is optimized for use as a clear or pigmented topcoat while maintaining the same breathable performance and durability
Interpretation
Raw materials are sourced from suppliers, transported to manufacturing facilities, and mixed to produce products. The product stage (A1-A3) drives the environmental impact, due to raw material production and energy use. This impacts is amplified in the use phase due to recoatings, making B4 the largest contributor to the overall impact. Market and Design service life scenarios differ depending on assumed estimated service life (ESL), with lower impacts for longer-lived products. Those scenarios are constructed using PCR prescriptions that are highly conservative, as they assumed the replacement of the full coating system. End-of-life impacts are relatively low, as products are assumed to be landfilled with building demolition waste. Switching to renewable energy is advised for products with high manufacturing energy demands. The manufacturer should explore lower-impact raw materials and work with suppliers using sustainable methods or renewable energy to enhance product sustainability.
LCIA results are relative expressions and do not predict impacts on category endpoints, the exceeding of thresholds, safety margins or risks. EPDs are comparable only when they follow the same PCR, functional unit and system boundary. The full EPD (PDF) contains the methodology, scenario assumptions and verification statement.
