Product description
Hager door closers are engineered to deliver reliable performance, durability, and flexibility across a wide range of commercial applications. The 5100 Series Closers feature a full rack-and-pinion mechanism, incorporating a heat-treated steel piston and a triple heat-treated steel spindle for enhanced strength and long-term durability. These closers are non-handed, allowing for installation on both left- and right-handed doors, and offer adjustable sizing from 1 through 6 to accommodate various application requirements. With these design features, the 5100 Series is well-suited for doors weighing up to 330 lbs.
Interpretation
This study developed representative Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) models and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for the company’s product lines, covering raw material extraction, manufacturing, transportation, assembly, packaging, distribution, and end-of-life stages. Results show that most environmental impacts occur during the product stage (A1–A3), primarily from raw material production, metal processing, transportation, and manufacturing energy use, while end-of-life impacts depend largely on recycling and disposal assumptions. Opportunities for impact reduction include increasing renewable energy use, improving material efficiency, reducing packaging, increasing recycled content, and sourcing from lower-impact suppliers.
LCIA results are relative expressions and do not predict impacts on category endpoints, the exceeding of thresholds, safety margins or risks. EPDs are comparable only when they follow the same PCR, functional unit and system boundary. The full EPD (PDF) contains the methodology, scenario assumptions and verification statement.
