Product description
This Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) covers Flexco Vinyl Stair Treads. Manufactured in Tuscumbia, Alabama, these treads are ideal for commercial or institutional buildings requiring cost-effective and code-compliant stair protection.
Flexco Vinyl Stair Treads are produced in a ribbed surface design and are available in nominal lengths of 42", 48", and 72". Nosing configurations include round bull nose, square nose, and square adjustable nose options to accommodate a range of stair geometries.
The product is classified under ASTM F2169 as Type TP, Class 2, Group 1 and/or 2, Grade 1. It meets Class I performance under ASTM E648 for critical radiant flux, passes smoke development requirements per ASTM E662, and demonstrates strong slip resistance (ASTM D2047), chemical resistance (ASTM F925), and light and heat stability (ASTM F1514 and F1515). The surface hardness meets or exceeds 85 Shore A.
Flexco Vinyl Stair Treads contribute to LEED v4 and v4.1 credit categories and are certified under FloorScore®, NSF/ANSI 332 Level 1, and USDA BioPreferred. The product meets the requirements of California Section 01350 and CHPS for low-emitting materials, and qualifies under American-made purchasing programs.
This EPD includes a table of nominal dimensions and corresponding weights per meter for each design covered, along with multiplication factors to calculate life cycle impacts for individual product configurations. While LCA results are based on a declared unit of 1 meter of average product, profile-specific results can be derived using these published multipliers. The environmental impact results of products in this document are based on a declared unit and therefore do not provide sufficient information to establish comparisons. The results shall not be used for comparisons without knowledge of how the physical properties of the product impact the precise function at the construction level. The environmental impact results shall be converted to a functional unit basis before any comparison is attempted.
Interpretation
The largest source of impact is raw material extraction (A1), followed by manufacturing (A3) and assembly (A5) for all indicators other than GWPbiogenic. Raw material (A1) impacts come primarily from PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and bio-based plasticizer. Manufacturing (A3) impacts are driven by electricity and natural gas consumption. Assembly/installation (A5) impacts come from adhesive use. For GWPbiogenic, disposal (C4) is the largest contributor due to the landfilling impacts.
LCIA results are relative expressions and do not predict impacts on category endpoints, the exceeding of thresholds, safety margins or risks. EPDs are comparable only when they follow the same PCR, functional unit and system boundary. The full EPD (PDF) contains the methodology, scenario assumptions and verification statement.
