Product description
TimberTech composite decking board is manufactured primarily from recycled polyethylene and wood flour (sawdust).
TimberTech composite decking comes in two profile versions, i.e., full and scalloped, as shown here in the product composition diagram. The full profile is covered by a 30-year manufacturer warranty and the scalloped profile by a 25-year manufacturer warranty. With the full-profile decking representing 46% of annual production output (by mass) and the scalloped-profile decking making up the remaining 54%, a production-weighted average composite decking product would carry a theoretical warranty of 27.3 years.
Interpretation
The primary driver of the individual environmental burdens is consistently the replacement of the decking over ESL of 75 years. Replacements accounts for 64% of total contribution across all the impact indicators. Raw Materials (A1) and Transport (A2) have a high contribution across most indicators. For GWP, Raw Materials (A1) contribute 14% burden, while Transport (A2) and Manufacturing (A3) show 7% and 5% burden respectively. Raw Material is the second most dominant stage for most impact indicators with 14% burden for AP, 12% for EP, 17% for ADPf and 11% for SFP. Transport (A2) contributes to AP by 8%, SFP and EP by 12%. Installation (A5) of decking product contributes 5% to the ODP and 4% to AP indicator, whereas Disposal (C4) contributes around 1% to 2% for all indicators.
LCIA results are relative expressions and do not predict impacts on category endpoints, the exceeding of thresholds, safety margins or risks. EPDs are comparable only when they follow the same PCR, functional unit and system boundary. The full EPD (PDF) contains the methodology, scenario assumptions and verification statement.
