Product description
The XLERATOR® Hand Dryer is a touchless, hygienic way to dry hands. The XLERATOR dries hands completely in 8 seconds. Facilities around the world use XLERATOR to save time, money, and the environment while creating a cleaner, more hygienic restroom. Models vary by cover type (zinc, white thermoset resin (BMC), or stainless steel) and color (white, textured graphite, custom special paint, custom special image, chrome plated, and brushed stainless steel). Standard features include adjustable speed and sound control, multi-voltage options: 110-120V or 208-277V, and 230V (international markets), adjustable heat settings – high, medium, low, and off, and an externally visible service LED. Options include a noise reduction nozzle and HEPA filtration system. The results presented in this EPD are based on the average of the three cover options: zinc cover model (most representative in terms of sales), stainless steel, and thermoset resin cover models. These models are similar, except for the use stage, in that the different voltage results in different dry time and power demand. This EPD represents the 120V model (most common for North America market). Total years of estimated service life (ESL) is 730,000 uses over 10 years of service life.
Interpretation
Interpretation is the last phase of an LCA, although it is typically done iteratively to inform and refine the goal and scope. In this section, the results are examined based on the data quality and consistency. Key assumptions are reviewed to ensure that conclusions and recommendations are consistent with the goal and scope. It should be noted that LCA results are based on a relative approach and indicate potential environmental effects therefore do not predict actual impacts on category impacts. Based on the results and study assumptions, methods and data, the cradle-to-grave impacts for XLERATOR® Hand Dryer are dominated by B1, Use Phase (88% to 95.5%), followed by A1, Raw Materials (4.2% to 10.4%).
LCIA results are relative expressions and do not predict impacts on category endpoints, the exceeding of thresholds, safety margins or risks. EPDs are comparable only when they follow the same PCR, functional unit and system boundary. The full EPD (PDF) contains the methodology, scenario assumptions and verification statement.
